Meet your representatives
My name is Alastair Sheppard and I am standing for the Board of Trustees for Dunsandel School.
My wife (Katharine) is the one you would expect to see here, but it’s time I got involved with our community and let her have a break from Playcentre and Plunket that might end after 9 years when our youngest, Thomas starts school in August. Our elder two, Claire and William, are in Room 5 with Miss Dekker and Room 3 with Miss McCloy respectively.
We have lived in Dunsandel for 13 years. After finishing a Commerce degree at Lincoln Uni, I carried on working in IT there, and currently work in Lincoln at AgResearch in the IT infrastructure space. In summertime we enjoy kids cricket and outdoor pursuits, and now that it’s winter, it’s ripper/tackle rugby and netball, plus some walking, hunting and geocaching.
No, I don’t really love fixing PCs… but I think the experience and skills I’ve gained from working in large environments with ever-evolving technology, on projects with teams both locally and nationally, in culturally diverse educational and research workplaces has the potential to benefit the Board and school both.
I’m proud to see my children enjoying their time at our school, constantly learning new skills and ideas, building relationships, showing leadership and demonstrating the PRIDE values that make me want to put up my hand to aid in shaping their future. I want the kids that leave our school to be confident, competent and challenged to keep learning while setting the foundations for the skills they will need in the life ahead of them.
I look forward to working with the other board members, helping to shape the direction of Dunsandel School in what could be an interesting few years in the education sector.
